 BOOK MEME:

1) What author do you own the most books by?
Since I don't own a ton, but i read a ton; the biggest author collection i have is the one and only JK Rowling! Harry Potter of course! The books that i read ususally are from the libraries ( love going to the library!) or borrowing from friends. Books are expensive these days!

2) What book do you own the most copies of?
I have two sets of the Lord of the Rings triology (two of Fellowship, Two Towers and Return of the King) as well as two copies of my favorite book, To Kill A Mockingbird.

3) What fictional character are you secretly in love with?
Mr. Darcy from Pride & Prejudice of course! And I won't lie, i'm totally in love with Harry Potter himself....

4) What book have you read more than any other?
I've read the Harry Potter series more than I can imagine by now, but as for other books  *hehe* , I've read The Lovely Bones about 5 times. A piece of perfection in the novel world, and I think Im hyping the movie up way too much...but i can't wait for that either!

5) What was your favorite book when you were 10-years-old?
Babysitter's Club, Babysitter's Little Sister (although Karen, do you REALLY have to tell us your whole life story in the first chapter of EVERY book that was in your series? REALLY?), Little Women, the Dear Diary series, Mrs. Piggle Wiggle's Farm and Boxcar Children.

6) What is the worst book you've read in the past year?
I tried giving this Twilight thing a try, and i thought the first book was a pile of fail, until i read New Moon. and i just stopped in the middle and tried to explain why I was actually reading this "book". I don't get the hype, I really don't. Some of the worst storytelling/grammar/everything in these books.

7) What is the best book you've read in the past year?
The Time Traveler's Wife. I always seemed to walk past it in book stores/libraries and never got around to reading it. When I did a few months ago, it was one of the best literary experiences/adventures I've had in a long time. The story is complicated as it is beautiful, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I recentley saw the trailer for the film starring Eric "yummy" Bana and Rachel McAdams....and I can tell you that if you think the trailer was weird---just read the book! Seriously, an amazing novel!

8) If you could tell everyone you know to read one book, what would it be?
Pride & Prejudice. It's PERFECTION.

9) What is the most difficult book you've ever read?
It's very rare that books are difficult for me to read, but MOBY DICK tops that list. DEAR LORD. i never want to see that fucking book again.

10) Do you prefer the French or the Russians?
I love the French, but not really a favorite French author :/

11) Shakespeare, Milton or Chaucer?
Shakespeare. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.

12) Austen Or Eliot?
AUSTEN. OBVIOUSLY.

13) What is the biggest or most embarrassing gap in your reading?
I've never read Gone With The Wind, Anna Karenina though it's sitting in my bookshelf (yes, i own it lol), War and Peace, What Makes Sammy Run? and Exodus. All are classics that I need to get cracking on!

14) What is your favorite novel?
To Kill A Mockingbird.

15) Play?
Romeo & Juliet, Noises Off, and Easy Virtue.

16) Poem?
 Annabel Lee . Poe=major love

17) Essay?
n/a

18) Short story?
The Tell-Tale Heart by Poe

19) Non-fiction?
Home-Julie Andrews ( ♥ )

20) Graphic novel?
Watchmen.

21) Memoir?
Running with Scissors b/c yes Sarah, that WAS some crazy shit.

22) History?
The Lonely Empress: Elisabeth of Austria by Joan Haslip

23) Mystery or noir?
neither...

24) Science fiction?
not too fond of it...

25) Who is your favorite writer?
JK Rowling, Jane Austen

26) Who is the most overrated writer alive today?
Do i really have to say it? STEPHANIE MEYER. Get . THE FUCK. OUT.  that woman can't write. hope none of you take offense, but seriously. NO. Dan Brown is pretty overrated too . I enjoyed the Da Vinci Code but it wasn't "amazing" or worth all the hype it's gotten over the years....

27) What are you reading right now?
Abundance: A Novel of Marie Antoinette by Sena Naslund Jeter. Beautifully written historical fiction of Marie Antoinette every step of her journey from Austria to Versailles...

just a few random updates, since i haven't wrote in my journal for a while!

- i'm bummed that i never got a chance to see The Edge of Love when it was in town (finally!) for a week. i blame it on my 1 1/2 week long sickness that didn't let me get out of the house.

- math isn't necessary. i really hate it, and i'm not having fun in my class.

- i'm quite disappointed in myself. i haven't watched any of this season's LOST. i have all the episodes recorded on my dVr and plenty of time to watch on the weekends, but i just can't bring myself to sit through it at the moment. it's become so abstract and hard to follow, but i've stuck with it this far--i just can't give it up yet!

- speaking of tv shows, THE TUDORS season 3 is coming!i've been seeing the posters all around town on buses, bus stops and billboards and i squeal in the inside. the new cast (based on the first episode) is a bit iffy, and i don't really like any particular portrayal of any of the royal characters. oh well, more henry cavill though! that man is seriously way too pretty for words. and he's going to be in this "battle of the greek Gods" type movie soon---PERFECT.

- speaking of movies....( don't you just love my segways?!) i saw Monsters vs. Aliens in 3D today and it was glorious! so much fun, even though the 3D glasses for 2 hours can do some visual damage for the day ( my eyes are KILLING me) , it was tons of fun. and all of the trailers were in 3D ( pixar's newest called "UP!" and "Ice Age 3" look adorable. my parents went to see I LOVE YOU, MAN without me tonight :( that's why i'm sitting here updating my journal. yes mom and dad, i do suppose studying is more important than oogling @ Paul Rudd's beautiful face.
there are so many movies i want to see this coming spring/summer and i feel like i just need to make a list so i don't get too overwhelmed:

- Sunshine Cleaning
- I Love You, Man
- Year One ( omg jack black & michael cera)
- UP!
- Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
- Sin Nombre
- The Soloist ( Joe Wright the director = ♥ . everything he touches is GOLD)
- Where The Wild Things Are ( the trailer is OMG WOW. it's my childhood come to life!)
- Wolverine (yeah, i have to support my BFF hugh jackman)
- Cheri
- The Young Victoria
- Night at the Museum 2: Escape From the Smithsonian
- Inglorious Bastards
- The Lovely Bones (NEED.TRAILER. NOW)
- NINE
- Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland
- Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince
-Terminator: Salvation ( it's fucking distracting! OOOOOH GOOD FOR YOU! for fucks sake you amature!). everyone take a good listen @ christian bale's freakout on the set...for it is one of the most amazing things i've ever heard.
- Public Enemies
- 17 Again (only because it was filmed @ my high school SAMOHI!)

i think that's it for the movies so far. ill update when i see more trailers. i love film. geez, it's my life.

basically i love any british imports, and i'm really a big fan of ADELE and Lily Allen. i love lily's feisty attitude and her new album is so great. i especially love "not fair" and "never gonna happen". and ADELE. words don't describe how amazing her voice is. i saw her in january @ the Wiltern and it was fantastic-she's the same age as me (20!) and her voice can just BELT. her album is wonderful, all the songs are beautiful as well.

- "Let The Right One In" will finally arrive in my mailbox tomorrow via netflix and i'm so excited . Dia and Sarah both recommended this to me; dia even saw it when it was in theatres and nobody new what it was! i can't wait to see it because i've heard fantastic things ! it'll be a nice break from all my anne boleyn/the tudor dynasty/henry viii/elizabeth I related films (thanks TUDORS on showtime--you officially made me obsessed with the Tudor dynasty!).

well i guess i should go read and study for class tomorrow. then GOSSIP GIRL. mmm chuck AND nate? blair , you lucky bitch.

xoxo

What movie, whether it was nominated by the Academy or not, gets your personal vote for Best Picture of 2008?

View other answers

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE! everything about the film was phenomenal; the acting, the cinematography, the music, the directing, the story ..everything! it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions and i haven't felt that refreshed and excited coming out of a film in a LONG time. i hope it will sweep the Oscars tomorrow because it is incredibly deserving of it's success. the theatre I work at was one of the first few theatres to open the film in Los Angeles and we were priveleged to host the opening party and multiple q&a sessions with danny boyle , dev patel, frieda pinto and simon beufoy.

Dev Patel and Frieda Pinto from Slumdog Millionaire. My favorite film of the year, and these two are marvelous in it. If you haven't seen the film yet-do yourself a HUGE favor and go check it out. it's a rollercoaster of emotions, and it one of the greatest stories told on film.

frieda is so gorgeous, and i love dev. he's goofy, yet handsome (he's British too, yay!). i love the show he was on called Skins from the  UK. it's sorta like gossip girl meets 90210 but BETTER.  i'll be back in a few days to give a rundown on the Golden Globes, and the upcoming award shows. i want to voice my opinion in my own journal!

hope everyone will have a happy and healthy 2009!

Now a question for my friends...
What did you think was the best film of 2008? The worst?
I'll wait for your opinions to put in my two cents. But if anyone says 'Happy Go Lucky' they will never be spoken to again. Sally Hawkins just won the NYC critics choice award and it's mind boggoling , really. All she did in that film was laugh, snort, giggle and annoy the hell out of everyone around her. Sure, an interesting performance, but not award worthy at all in my opinion. And Mike Leigh won the acting award for the same crictic awards. UGH.

But Josh Brolin won supporting actor for MILK...that gives me some hope for the more prestigious awards coming up!

RIP John Lennon. The list of sudden and unexpected celebrity deaths is long—Princess Di, Heath Ledger, Kurt Cobain, Marilyn Monroe, and many more. Which one affected you the most on an emotional level?

View other answers

Heath Ledger's and Steve Irwin's death shocked me the most because they were incredibly unexpected. I thought that the crocodile hunter was invincible really, and it was quite shocking to hear about it over the internet. I also heard about Heath's death over the internet via the infamous tmz logo...which always doesn't ring in my mind as a reliable news source, so forgive me for saying this, but i thought it was a complete lie. when i started seeing the news channels running stories on it left and right i was in complete shock and felt so upset. i wasn't huge fan of his, but i really enjoyed him in the movies he starred in. i also remember having a picture of him on my binder in middle school during the "knight's tale" era because i thought he was so handsome! it's  a shame that he's left us, because all the hype of his Joker role in TDK was mind blowing. honestly, it's probably getting a lot of hype because of his death , which is a shame, and now WB is pushing for a post-humous oscar nomination which would be really bittersweet if he won.
